Why my kids are going to do awesome at the Geography Bee...

Updated 7/5 with a few more things I thought of...
Colored in above are all the states we traveled through in the months of April and May. That's a lot of states!!! And along the way we've learned a few things, such as the following fascinating tidbits:

Prettiest state: West Virginia. I'm glad I wasn't the one driving those twisty mountain roads, but the scenery was breathtaking.

Worst weather: Tie between horrible snowstorm in Utah and horrible rainstorm in Illinois. I'd forgotten how terrifying rain can be. Thanks Dad for being an amazing driver and getting us safely through both storms!

Cheapest gas: South Carolina, and yet somehow the kids were always sleeping and the tank was always full, so I didn't get to take advantage.

Worst city traffic that I personally had to drive in: Columbus, OH. Weird but true. Runners-up were Montgomery, AL and Omaha, NE.

Best place to hear my kids preaching the gospel: Las Vegas Airport. Here's a sample quote (turn mental volume up to LOUD): "Those people should stop gambling! The prophet said we shouldn't gamble! Don't they listen to the prophet?"

Best fast food: Culver's. Much wider selection than your usual fast food joints. And fried cheese curds are divine. And so is frozen custard for dessert! Makes for a great drive through the Midwest!

Best road snack: True North Pistachio Crisps. And Puffcorn. And Crackerfuls. And Twizzlers. Mmmmmm! My kids vote for Extra Watermelon gum and Wint-O-Green Lifesavers.

Biggest windfarm: Indiana. Might also be research station created by aleins, but we'll just go with windfarm for now.

Best entertainment: Books on tape. Worked even better than the DVD player! Yay for Pippi Longstocking and Anne of Green Gables!

Part of the drive my kids keep asking to repeat: Driving across Mobile Bay.

Part of the drive that I'm not keen to repeat: Driving across Lake Pontchartrain, or either of those tunnels in West Virginia.

Best state to talk about geology: Wyoming, where I exhausted my knowledge of sedimentary rocks. Everything I said about igneous and metamorphic rocks after that turned out to be worng, but easily corrected once we got ourselves library cards. Phew!

Most bugs: Alabama, hands down. Unreal. And they sure loved Babs! Poor thing. She even got one bite so bad it required medical attention and 3 medications. Speaking of which...

Most medications purchased: Again, Alabama. Apparently there's something about us and that state. I took both girls to the doctor at least once (Babs got to go 3 times!) while we were there, filled 3 prescriptions, and purchased an additional 5 OTC meds, plus administered 2 more OTCs that we already had on hand.

We haven't stayed anywhere for more than about 3 weeks at a time since the beginning of April, (including home, the old one or the new one) but we've sure made some great memories. And guess what, we're hitting the road again this week. Hey why not!

That is so crazy. You make me super tired just thinking about not being able to stay in one place for longer than 3 weeks. I do love the recap though, that's great.

BeeP, they have a Culver's in Cheyenne, I think that's the closest one you'll find. Totally worth it... yum!

It's great to hear about your adventures. You'll have to write a travel book for families. I agree...your kids will be geography whizzes.
