The Continuing Saga of Quay's Arm

Soooo.... as you recall last Friday Quay's doctor put her in a new splint and said we should get more x-rays after a few days. We dutifully went in for the x-rays this morning (a very unpleasant experience... without that splint poor Quay's arm hurts!!!) and then to McDonald's for lunch. I wasn't in any hurry to get home because last time we did this, Doc didn't call us with the results till the very end of the day. However, by the time we got home, there was a message from him, and when I called back the receptionist put me right through. (Bad sign!) He told me that the new x-rays show a radial head fracture (her radius is broken right up by the elbow) and that kind of fracture usually needs to be repaired surgically. He'd already consulted with a local orthopedic surgeon who recommended going to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, so he sent us straight up to the children's hospital to consult with them. We spent several hours hanging out in the ER, and finally the doctor came in to tell us that no, she doesn't need surgery (PHEW!) Instead she gets a new splint and we need to go back next week and then they'll put her in a cast. ARGH!!!! Seriously, this is her third splint! The poor arm has been broken for 8 days and she's still not in a cast! And they want to wait a full week! Lucky for us, Munkus has a cousin who is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon up in Washington State, but he happens to be in town this week. So we talked with him at length this evening, and he's going to take a look at the x-rays tomorrow just to make sure he agrees with what the other doctors said. So that's the latest on the arm. Quay is doing great overall. She's up to all her usual tricks, jumping off furniture and running around like a crazy person, so I know she's not too uncomfortable. She doesn't like all these hospital and doctor runs, but she's putting up with everything quite well, I think. I'll update more when there more to update on...
