When we first moved here, people kept talking about how hard it was to grow anything in the soil here. I decided to try my hand at gardening anyway. I'm not much good at it generally, but I have found that zucchini absolutely thrives on our poor soil and my neglect. This is what Munkus found out there when he happened to peek at the zucchini bush this evening.

I mean, that's a big squash! Seriously, it's almost as big as MungBean! We tried to weigh it, but it was too heavy for our kitchen scale to handle.

And it's not like we don't check the zucchini plant pretty frequently to see what's growing there. These things just sprout up overnight! It's amazing. I picked one a few weeks ago that was only like half this size and made 6 loaves of zucchini bread out of it. Wow.

We were planning on zucchini as our side dish with dinner tonight anyway, so we carved a few slices out of the behemoth and grilled them up alongside some chicken. Yum, right! Well, here's the sad ending to the story. It didn't taste so great. It was kind of stringy and had more of a squashy flavor than one normally expects from a zucchini. Babs ate several bites, Munkus ate some, I had a few nibbles, and that big huge thing went into the trash. Oh well. It's still the hugest zucchini I've ever seen.

Here's Babs with the monster zuke and its baby brother which is also ginormous. Maybe that "tiny" one will taste better.

It's crazy how fast they go from too little to too big.
My goodness! How come my zucchini aren't growing like that?!? I must really be doing something wrong.
That is ginormous! I'm impressed!
That is crazy! I'm sure it was yucky. "They" say that the smaller they are the more tender and delicious. Next year you should try for one double that size!
You could ride that donkey TO the Fair!!! Nice one. I am canning pepper jelly today with peppers that look like small pumpkins, but I didn't grow them - hey! maybe you did!!!
Holy Cow! I can't believe that. It would of been funny to see how much it did actually weigh.
Just to clarify, I'm not blagging here... I take no credit whatsoever for that thing. It's all the terrible soil! And keep in mind too, it was nasty.
Those things do grow overnight! Thank heavens for zuccini bread!
hey, we don't believe in blagging around here anyway, do we? :)
WOW!! That is huge! That's great that you have pictures to remember it.
