Onward and Upward

The girls are now in bunk beds! We found this cool bed at IKEA which meets several of our rather particular bunk bed needs. For one thing, the girls' room is small and has a ceiling fan and I was concerned about putting them in a regular bunk where the top bed would put one right up there amongst the ceiling fan blades. This bed is much shorter and therefore less of a concern. Secondly, certain members of the family like to jump off things. I'm not going to name any names, but suffice it to say I've been through enough rounds of x-rays lately to last me for a while, so again I'm happy to have a shorter bed. (We've had some very serious discussions of Bunk Bed Rules!) Thirdly, bunk beds can be ridiculously expensive. This one was less so. And finally, since the bottom bed is directly on the floor, we won't be losing quite so many toys, clothes, and books to the under-the-bed black hole. The bed is cool too because it can flip upside down to be a regular height bed that's basically a four-poster. I know it's kinda drab looking, but I seriously think it's such a cool bed! As you can see, Munkus was the general contractor on the job and subbed the actual work out.
MungBean LOVES helping his daddy with home projects. He was sick with a bad fever (103!) at the time the project was going on, but you never would have known... he was just happy as a clam among all the tools!

Very cute! Angela L. has her boys in one of these and she painted it to match their room.

hip hip hooray! Bunk beds are heaven sent.

(oh, but good luck ever trying to get the top-bunk kid to make their bed. I can't even make it!)

He is an engineer! He has a masters from MIT! Of course he is going to contract the actual work out (besides, then it gets done properly - good just little Mungbean!) Just be glad he didn't contract it through Lowes!!!
