Thanksgiving was awesome this year! My parents, Sarah & Cavendish & the kids, and Kris joined us for a week of fun fun fun. And pie pie pie... instead of cramming tons of pies into Thanksgiving Day itself, we decided to spread them out over the whole week, the better to enjoy them. Here's how the week went...
Monday: Rhubarb, Rustic Raspberry
Tuesday: Cherry, Banana Cream, and "Bananutella" (a last minute inspired suggestion to spread a layer of nutella before filling the second banana cream... it was divine!)
Wednesday: Cherry again, Triple Berry, Apple
Thursday: Pumpkin
Friday: Grapefruit (basically lemon meringue without the meringue and substituting grapefruit instead of lemon)
Favorite? Hmmm, too many good ones to decide between. Really, it was such a delicious week. We found that 3 pies a day was just about right for dessert plus breakfast the next day... well, not everyone got pie for breakfast. You had to be early to beat the competition. But that just meant that the daily planning and baking began early, because we were in a constant state of wanting more pie.
Along with pie every evening, we shared thoughts on what we are grateful for. We took to calling it "Pie and Gratitude," and it was cute to hear the kids ask if it was time for pie and gratitude after dinner each night. Thanksgiving dinner was delish... I have to say this about us: we totally know how to do T-day awesome. Mmm mmm mmm!
It's been a rough year (have I mentioned that before?) but it was great to reflect on how very very many blessings we have. It was a great week!
